Sam Simon Takes the Stage in "Dementia Man, An Existential Journey" Hosted by NVMHF
"Dementia Man, An Existential Journey" is the award-winning autobiographical story of a man who faces his diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease by actor and playwright Samuel A. Simon. Simon takes the stage as a man facing his cognitive decline and asks the hard questions of what to do next in the face of what he calls “an existential journey.” The play brings awareness to an important issue of our time and raises funds for the Foundation, of which Simon serves as a board member.
"I think I was born a trouble maker," says Simon, setting the stage for his own personal journey into early onset dementia. "What are my choices? Should I continue to try and cause trouble? Or should I simply vanish?"
Proceeds for this event benefit the Northern Virginia Mental Health Foundation. NVMHF supports and advocates for individuals receiving behavioral health treatment from the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board and provides funding necessary for them to achieve their recovery goals.
